A spherical magnum pistol powder for maximum velocity in magnum handguns, with .22 Hornet listed as a secondary use.
Alliant's spherical magnum handgun powder, slower than 2400, made for wringing top velocity out of large revolver cases. In .454 Casull and heavy .44 Magnum it does what it claims, and it meters far better than a flake through a progressive, which matters when you load magnum ammunition in volume. It is also listed for .22 Hornet, a natural fit for a slow powder in a tiny case. Like most slow ball powders in a big case it wants a magnum primer and a serious charge — run it light and you get poor, inconsistent combustion rather than a pleasant mild load.

Grain shape
Spherical grains meter beautifully and pack to a high loading density, so a slow powder still fits a case a bulky flake would overflow. Burn rate comes from ball size and coating depth, and that coating is also why ignition is fussier here than with a flake — weak primers and light charges give it trouble.
