Aimed at short magnum loads, with medium rifle loads as a secondary use. Alliant highlights ballistic efficiency and high energy density.
A high-energy powder that made its name giving the short magnums — .300 WSM, 7mm WSM — velocity out of proportion to their case capacity, and it does much the same in .30-06. That energy density is both the attraction and the catch: it is not one of the TZ formulations and it has a reputation for moving with temperature, so a load developed on a cool morning can arrive somewhere else on a hot bench. It meters cleanly, which is more than can be said for some powders in its class. If you want its velocity, develop it in the conditions you will shoot in and leave margin at the top.

Grain shape
Extruded stick with a web placed just under RL-19 on the chart; the energy packed into each grain is chemistry rather than geometry, which is why it does more than its burn position suggests. Extruded grains hold burning surface steadily but bridge and get cut in a measure, so charge spread is worse than a spherical unless you trickle.

Alliant says it meters easily and consistently and delivers maximum velocity even in extreme weather, but does not market it as one of the TZ temperature-stable formulations.

Slightly slower than Reloder 16; Alliant compares its burn speed to IMR IMR 4350.
