Laser Powder Check Pro
Just wanted to post a review of the new RCM laser powder check. We all know the problem with probe-based powder checks: the mess they make on our presses (unless you are in a humidity-controlled room). The RCM laser powder check mitigates this issue — but better yet, it provides far superior adjustability and accuracy.
This laser is pin-point accurate. A friend and I were loading 9mm with three different loads using HP-38, CFE Pistol and Silhouette. With head-stamp-sorted Federal brass, the charge set at 4.3 gr of HP-38 (verified on an FX-120i scale) and alarms at +.020″ / −.015″, we ran the press at 1,000 rounds per hour. We did not get any high alarms, and the low alarms it did throw caught real undercharges of .05 gr or less.
On a second run with mixed range brass we ran 450 rounds without a single overcharge stoppage — and every low-charge alarm traced back to case-height variation in one brand of brass, not the sensor. For loads near the top of the load data we strongly encourage matching head-stamp brass; the sensor's tolerances are tight enough to make use of it.
In conclusion, this is by far the most accurate and adjustable powder check I have encountered. During my reloading tenure I have used three different powder checks — not one of them even remotely compares to the accuracy of the RCM laser powder check.
