Hodgdon Longshot
A heavy-field and magnum shotshell powder that also serves as a high-velocity handgun powder at comparatively moderate operating pressures.
The heavy hitter of the spherical shotshell powders and a legitimate high-velocity handgun powder besides. In 12-gauge it is the standard for long-range and waterfowl loads; in .40 S&W, .357 SIG and .38 Super it makes serious velocity at comparatively moderate pressure, which is why it has a following for major-power-factor loads. It meters perfectly. The downsides are muzzle flash, which is substantial, dirty burning when loaded light — like most slow ball powders it wants to be worked — and no temperature-stability claim, which matters for a competition load worked up in one season.

Grain shape
Spherical, degressive and dense, so it meters exactly through a bushing or a progressive measure. Being slow it occupies real case volume, which means a double charge in a pistol case usually shows itself.
