Extruded single-base, in production since 1935, made in Canada. The long kernels are known to meter less consistently than short-grain or spherical powders. Not listed as temperature stable.

Unverified community anecdote. The following is a summary of what handloaders report in public forums. It is not manufacturer information, it has not been tested, it may be wrong, and it contains no load data by design. Treat it as colour, not guidance.

IMR 4064 has a devoted following among milsurp and M1 Garand shooters and people loading .30-06 and .308, described as a genuinely do-all powder with excellent case fill in large-capacity .30 cases. The dominant sentiment in current threads is nostalgia and frustration: people who used it for decades say they simply cannot find it and have moved on.

Availability: Widely reported as very hard to find in 2025-2026, and several users describe it as disappeared from shelves entirely for years.   • At least one user reports moving to Vihtavuori powders because they could no longer source 4064, and now reserves their remaining supply only for previously developed loads — an example of scarcity forcing a full re-development, not a swap.
  • One user specifically switched away because the measure on their progressive press would not handle it.

Verify the charge, not just the recipe
