Nobel Sport Vectan Ba10

The fastest Vectan handgun powder, covering light target loads from the smallest pocket-auto cartridges up through 45 ACP.

The fastest of the Ba series - Ba for batonnet, French for a little stick, so these are single-base extruded rods rather than flakes or ball. It sits near Bullseye and N310 and covers light target loads from the pocket-auto cartridges up through .45 ACP. Charge volume at this burn speed is minimal, with the usual double-charge hazard that implies. Almost no US presence; Shooters World is the only channel and the only data source.

Grain shape

Small extruded rods rather than flake or sphere, so the burning surface holds up a little better through the burn than a flake of the same speed. The grains still bridge in a pistol measure, and at a charge this small any bridging is a large share of the drop.

Why geometry decides burn rate more than chemistry does: Shape Is the Product.

Ba is short for the French batonnet, a small stick or rod - the Ba series are single-base extruded grains rather than flakes or ball. Vectan is French-made Nobel Sport propellant; Shooters World is the current US distributor and publishes the US load data.

This powder is obscure enough in the US that its practical character is thinly documented. The note above is deliberately short rather than padded.

Sources

The specifications above come from Nobel Sport Vectan's own published documentation, linked below. The two “RCM's read” sections are ours, not theirs — our assessment of what this powder is like to load, drawn from its published characteristics and from what handloaders consistently report. No manufacturer endorses them and no source below backs them. If you think we have one wrong, tell us — we would rather fix it.
